Lucky Luna

Intro
From its charming pixel art graphics to the innovative no-jump-platformer mechanic, Lucky Luna has been a blast to work on. My beginnings into the video game industry were as a pixel artist and this project brought back waves of nostalgia!
UX — Wireframing & Documentation
As on any project, the UI starts with laying out all screens in an overview flow to get a better perspective on the work to be done. After that, delving deeper into each screen and user journey sets everything up for the UI to be designed and implemented.
UI Design
The game had a very strong visual style developed by the talented Anaïs Maamar and the UI had to follow. This proved to be a bit more challenging than expected, as the limited resolution and color palette left no room for error.
Final Touches
The art style influenced not only the looks of the UI, but also how it moved. Animations had to feel as chunky as the world of Luna, so a lot of great care went into developing frame-by-frame animations (with a lot of help from Martí Pinós Melo 🙏🏻) as well as tricky shader work for the full screen transitions.
Extra
Being developed by a very small team meant that everybody had to chip in where they could. One of the fondest tasks I had was to develop the behavior for the game’s tutorial character, the Fox.
